The Day the iPhone Died

Sunday morning I very gently placed my iPhone on a side table where side table equals inside a full glass of water.

I have now been iPhoneless for 3 days. Do you even know what that does to a person?

Not only am I now using a flip phone circa 2000, I no longer have the world at my fingertips.

What’s a girl to do when she can’t check Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Email, all those “is there an app for that?” apps?!

She goes off grid…ish. That’s what. And maybe goes a little crazy at the same time.

So I’m writing on my blog. So I’m using a laptop connected to wifi to post my blog. So I have access to my email, Facebook, and Twitter on that laptop. Who cares? It’s not the same, I tell you!

Who seriously uses their personal computers anymore? Anyone? Because I don’t. The only time I turn mine on is to upload photos or write a blog post. I literally do every last little thing on my phone.

If I want to know who a certain celebrity from a show is I use my IMDB app. If I want to take a quick photo I use Instagram. If I want to post something snarky I hop on Twitter. If I want to know the answer to something really quick I Google it from Safari.

Seriously. What am I supposed to do with a stinkin’ flip phone circa 2000? How am I supposed to live?!

The fact that I even feel this way is quite disgusting. What happened to the days when I didn’t have a phone at all other than the rotary dial sitting on the telephone table next to my dad’s recliner? What happened to waiting in line to make a phone call because someone else in the family was using it? What happened to sitting down and reading a book or drawing a picture because being on the phone was the last thing from my mind?

I miss those days. Those days before I had some type of phone with me at all times. The days when just being in the moment was enough.

But at the same time I want my phone back. I NEED my phone back. I feel lost without it. My IMDB app is my life!

You know what else is disgusting? I feel like I’m no longer part of the iPhone Club. You know the one I’m talking about. The one that practically everyone you know is in because they too have iPhone’s so you’re never without a way to charge your beloved never has a fully charged battery connection to the world. Say you’re at Suzy Q’s house and your phone dies. No worries! She’s got a charger right there at the end of her kitchen counter! You’re golden!

Nobody has a charger for this unidentified circa 2000 flip phone. I’d bet money on it. I’m out of the club. Kicked to the curb. Sayonara loser.

I miss you iPhone. I hope we’ll be together again soon. Because you and me? We’re like orange sherbet and a waffle cone. We just make sense.

Ah…there she is. In all her glory. Love it.

I wish it wasn’t weird to leave Christmas trees up year round.

I can’t wait to see what neat-o OSU ornaments I add next year, but until then…

Friday, How I Love Thee

1. I love Friday!

2. You know what else I love? Making lists on my blog.

3. Also, I’ve travelled to the dark side. You are now looking at an iPhone user. I traded in the ‘ol Blackberry for a shiny new white rectangle of deliciousness.

4. I also love…INSTAGRAM! It’s equally as delicious as the iPhone itself.

5. Last Friday I took my second to last final of my college career.

6. Instagram captured it for me quite nicely, don’t you think?

7. This is actually the first picture I took. Are you surprised it’s a picture of my cat? You shouldn’t be. Smile

8. Also, last Friday, I went to the WalkAround which is part of the awesomely amazing homecoming celebration OSU has every year.

9. Can you believe that is made out of tissue paper??? Yeah, me either, but it really and truly is.

10. It’s so much brighter over here on the dark side. I highly recommend it!

Pinning Away!

I’ve jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon, and boy is it ever one fun wagon to ride!

Not only have I been pinning away, but I’ve found some totally awesome ideas for future craft projects.

Like this one:

But, most of all, this one:

I’m making my own version of this ribbon wreath right now. All I can tell you at this point is that mine is orange and black for my beloved Cowboys, and it’s not round. Winking smile

I read about a Pinterest Challenge the other day where you make one thing off your boards per week. I might just be able to accomplish that fete, but there’s a definite wreath theme to my craft board. I’m going to have work on getting more doors. Ha!

Happy Pinning!

Tossin' the Pigskin

It's that time of year again!

Football season!

I just love it, don't you?

I especially love all of the tailgating food. But, I love food in general so that's probably not a good enough reason for loving football. Ha!

This year, my team, The Oklahoma State University Cowboys, are sporting new uniforms, and boy are they ever fabulous!

My favorite are still the orange jerseys with white pants, but they have enough different colors of everything this year to make 48 different uniform combinations! Is that not crazy? I don't even have that many outfits in my closet. Maybe I should start playing football?

Source

I love me some ORANGE!

And our quarterback, Brandon Weeden!

Source

You can't play the game without DEFENSE and we have a fantastic defensive line!

Source

This one makes me laugh. It's just so...foreboding. Haha!

Source

These are my favorites from the last couple of years, but I think the new uniforms are going to be just as great. Plus, with 48 different possible combinations we'll be able to predict the uniform combo along with the score. More ways to win a contest is always a good thing in my book. :-)

I can't wait till our game against Tulsa on Saturday!

GO POKES!

Sundays

I'm writing about Sunday, but it's not Sunday.

It's Monday.

And the Sunday I'm writing about didn't happen yesterday. It's the Sunday before that.

Are you confused yet? Because I am.

I go to my parents house every Sunday.

You may think this is weird or you may think it's normal.

For me, it's normal.

Originally, I started going every Sunday to do laundry.

But now that I finally, at the ripe old age of 28, have my very own washer and dryer I just go to their house to well...go to their house.

It makes my mom happy and my dad too so, as long as I live close by I'll probably continue my Sunday visit.

Most of the time there is some project that one of us has dreamed up that we work on while I'm there. Plus, we have dinner. Dinner is very important.

The Sunday before last I didn't work on any projects. I walked around aimlessly taking random pictures. A girl's gotta get in some practice time whenever she can.

We've had this rock forever. All the Taylor brothers have one. I think it's pretty fabulous.

This is my mom's tomato garden. I use the term garden very loosely... I think the yellow looks fantastic against the red barn! I love color!

Some of mom's flowers...

More of mom's flowers.

Isn't this awesome? It's an old wheel that leans up against the house. I think my mom is a bit obsessed with them because yesterday she was looking through an ad for an auction and she said, "ooooo, they have wheels!!!"

This is the blackjack oak that my sweet baby kitty Sam is buried under. I kind of like the crooked view better. Maybe because I'm crooked. Ha!

My daddy's thermos from childhood. I can just see him at lunch with this!

Another of mom's obsessions. She has glass jars EVERYWHERE.

Hopefully, next Sunday I'll be able to work on my tables. I need those babies to be finished so badly. Lamps just aren't that useful on the floor.

Oh, brother...

Yesterday we had dinner at my parents house.

{Side Note}...I found the wedding picture I wanted to put in their anniversary post. I knew I had it somewhere!

I told you they both wore white...

Ok, so back to our dinner. My "little" brother, the human one, came to eat as well. This is a super rare occurrence and I'm utterly shocked that my parents and I didn't faint when he pulled down the driveway.

And yes, he shoved my face into his armpit and then asked me if it smelled good. Ugh!

Other than his armpit theatrics my brother is pretty great, but sometimes I wonder what goes on in that boys head. Last week, out of nowhere, he calls me and says he's going to start a contracting business. I'm thinking oh, brother..., but I said, "don't you have to be licensed for that kind of thing?" His response was something about his friend/partner being licensed, and again I'm thinking oh, brother...

I now realize where the term "oh, brother" comes from. Someone from a million years ago must have had a schemer of a brother like I do so they were always saying or thinking oh, brother...

I wonder how long it will be before he calls me with another fabulous job idea. I swear he changes jobs more than he changes his socks.

Really, though, he is pretty great. Mostly because he brought me this present:

Isn't he so sweet? Bringing me a spoon for my collection?

{Side Note}...Yes, I have a spoon collection...I'll show it to you sometime.

I love it!

And speaking of love, don't you just love my purple glitter nail polish? I realize I'm not a tween, but I can't get enough of glitter nail polish. This bottle is by Nicole and it's in the One Less Lonely Girl by Justin Bieber Collection. Remember how I said I'm not a tween? Well, I'm apparently drawn to tween type things. Ha!

The yellow arrow is pointing to my color One Less Lonely Glitter, but I'm also totally in LOVE with Step to the Beat of My <3! I'll have to pick that baby up sometime soon. Even though I'm a closet tween at least my polish purchase went toward a good cause which you can check out here. Thanks Justin Bieber!

Things I love...

So...we already know I have a slight Pier 1 obsession. But did you also know I'm obsessed with Pottery Barn catalogs? Yes, I said the catalog, not the store. I can count on one hand the times I've been in an actual Pottery Barn store, but I read the catalog likes it's the newspaper. I love everything they have to offer. I love the way they put things together. I love their style. Well...I just love Pottery Barn.

I own exactly two items from PB. One I purchased online and one I purchased in the store. My online purchase was a CD tower that looks like an apothecary cabinet. I have since given it new life as a jewelry box because CDs are like so 1995. My store purchase was a clearance table top apothecary cabinet to match the CD tower. I've always used it on my desk at work to hold rubber bands and paper clips. I love them both, but they were NOT cheap. Even on clearance. And, if I'm being honest, which I am, I'm pretty cheap. Tight. Stingy. Or frugal if we're being nice. I will spend GOBS of money on purses and shoes, but beyond that everything should cost 2 bucks. If everything cost 2 bucks, the world would be a happier place.

My favorite thing to do with the catalog is "borrow" their ideas.

I used this idea for a wall arrangement in my living room. I was looking at the Fall catalog and this is the Spring edition, but it's still fairly similar.

My version includes lots of Coke memorabilia, of course, because I love Coke more than life itself. Ok, maybe not that much, but it definitely ranks right up there at the top. Along with bacon. Oh, and my family.

This is still a work in progress or a WIP as I like to say, but honestly most of my house is a WIP. I don't have the table on the right anymore because I found a super cool set that I'm currently refinishing. Someday I'll have the sofa recovered, but I can't decide on a color or pattern so I'm sticking with the 1970s yellow and green for now. It actually doesn't look that bad and you would totally agree with me if I were to show you the rest of the room... I'm also not in love with the butter cream-esque paint color, but it's what came with the house and the thought of painting all those walls wore me out. Painting is definitely going to be a down the road a ways project.

This is another idea I want to "borrow." I already have the secretary which my mom gave to me so it was my favorite price of all next to 2 bucks! FREE! But I've been struggling with filling the shelves in a functional yet stylish way, and this is just the ticket. I can probably even do this from items I already own which is even more FREE!

I also love a mismatched table and chairs. I already have a table similar to this that belonged to my grandparents. Currently, I have the same chairs sitting around it that my grandparents used, but they're kinda dainty feeling. The seats are cane and the legs are spindly and it's not that they aren't beautiful chairs it's just that I don't feel comfortable sitting in them for more than a few minutes at a time. And considering I sit at that table for hours at a time working on different craft projects I would love to have something more comfortable and eclectic feeling.

Like these perhaps...

Oh, wait! I already have 6 of these babies. I paid less than half price for them too! I love, love, love them, and I desperately want to put them around my pedestal table, but I think my mom would have a heart attack if I used chairs other than what the table came with since it all belonged to her parents. Oh well, maybe someday I'll work up the courage.

I also love these light fixtures...

I'm sure I could figure out how to make either one of these myself and save a ton of money. I especially love the one made from jars. So clever!

And these...oh man! If I had a Money Tree it would definitely be buying me one of these babies to go in my dining room!

I love me some PB. Pottery Barn. Peanut Butter. Pretty Boy. It really doesn't matter. PBs are ALL good in their own way, but the first one...it's great for inspiration, and if you have the Money Tree I wish I had growing in your backyard just buy it all and send me pictures so I can drool over them.
